EBENEZER CIRCUIT ASSEMBLY 2014

The Circuit Assembly was held on 23-24 August 2014 at Mamelodi and was again a highlight for the circuit.  It is also satisfactory for the moderature to realise that circuits are keeping to the circuit assemblies, as this is a way of managing the church from the bottom to ensure that the decisions of the church are carried out accordingly.

The meeting started with a highlight when the circuit chairperson, Mr Moss Mdluli made his opening address.  He reported on the highlights of the circuit in the past year.  He proudly reported the progress made on the entire task that was placed before the committee.

Christian giving as a mode of self-giving in gratitude to God for his gracious salvation in Jesus Christ

Offering is one of the elements in the liturgical tradition and orders of the Maranatha Reformed Church of Christ. The central goal of Christian offering is gratitude to and glorification of God. It is therefore befitting to start this section by quoting a prayer of gratitude of the Stewardship Department of the Church of Scotland, in Edinburgh. It reads:

We thank you, God, for all your gifts; for life in your wonderful world; for space and time to enjoy your gift of life; for talents that bring us a sense of fulfilment. We thank you, God, for coming as Jesus: to show us how much you love us; to forgive us through the cross of Calvary; to raise us with Christ to new life with you. We thank you, God, for your Holy Spirit: your presence to guide us day by day; your assurance of your continuing love.

MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE FROM THE MODERATOR OF THE MARANATHA REFORMED CHURCH OF CHRIST (MRCC), PROF. MATSOBANE J MANALA TO THE MANDELA FAMILY, SOUTH AFRICA AND THE WORLD

Our deepest Sympathy to the Mandela family, the South African nation and the world! The church wishes to thank God for the selfless life of South Africa’s first democratically elected President and Father of the Democratic South African nation, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.   Whilst we mourn his death, we need to also celebrate his well spent life in the true service of humanity. Mandela was indeed a role model in respect of true servant leadership, discipline and genuine compassion for the other, especially the vulnerable children and elderly citizens. His inspirational talks and walks have not only inspired hope to South Africans but also to the whole African continent and the world. May his legacy live forever as he himself has stated: "Man’s goodness is a flame that can be hidden but never extinguished." (From Long Walk to Freedom, 1995).

REST IN PEACE FATHER MANDELA

Easter Message: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Introduction

Many of us have attended many Good Friday and Easter services in our lives. Many of us have therefore repeatedly heard the message of the cross and of Christ’s resurrection. Yes, we have heard the message of the death of Jesus of Nazareth and the resurrection of the Christ of God. The question is what impact has these services and messages had on our lives and conduct? Did these services and messages add value to each one’s Christian life or were they all in vain? God forbid, because all these were meant to inform, nourish, awaken, lead us to repentance and give us assurance of salvation through the death and resurrection of God’s only begotten Son. This is what the Apostle Paul is saying in our selected and read passage. Our focus is however on verses 3 and 4.
